Have you ever found yourself wondering what a Dark Souls-style action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology would look? Of course you have, because that sounds absolutely awesome. The good news is that Black Myth: Wu Kong is exactly that - a stunning-looking next-gen title packed with martial arts and monsters.

Chinese developer Game Science describes Black Myth: Wu Kong as an action-adventure RPG. According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, Black Myth is a single-player title based on Journey To The West, a classic Chinese novel published in the 16th century with roots in Chinese folk religion and mythology. The game will focus on the mythical Monkey King (Wukong) and his powers. It sounds like we can expect to see up to 72 of these abilities in the game.

Take a look at 13 minutes of absolutely gorgeous gameplay below, with plenty of focus on combat and terrifying monsters. Is it possible to be completely in love with a game before you've had a chance to go anywhere near it? I'm not sure, but Black Myth is ticking all my boxes.

Black Myth is being developed in Unreal Engine 4, and is targeting a release for PC and consoles. Given that the game is currently in development and doesn't look to have signed a publishing or distribution deal of any kind yet, we can safely assume that it will be a next-gen release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

I mean, just look at it. Despite being footage from a pre-alpha build, Black Myth looks incredibly polished. The recently released demo has reportedly been in development at Game Science for nearly two years now, so this is clearly a labour of love. Incidentally, Game Science's previous three games have all had a mobile/PC focus, so Black Myth is something of a completely new challenge.

Based on everything we've seen so far, it looks to me as if it's a challenge the team is more than up to. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the major publishers took notice of this one and attempted to strike a deal before long. Let's keep everything crossed and hope Game Science can make this the game they want it to be. You can check out the official website for more information in the meantime.
