The 00s Were The Best Decade For Gaming, Says New Survey

As game lovers, we all have to start somewhere. Whether you started out in arcades, having a blast while shoving coins into machines or whether your first console was the Nintendo Switch, a highly portable and indie compatible success, we all had to jump into games sometime. A new survey says, however, that gamers think the 2000s were the best years for gaming.

According to a survey published by Manyspins.com, most people think the 2000s were the golden years of gaming, citing classic titles like The Sims, Rockband, World of Warcraft, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and Halo: Combat Evolved as favourites of the era.

The choice may have been closer than you'd think, though, as the 2000s only beat the 2010s by 4% on the survey. 40% of people named the 2000s while 36% said 2010s so there wasn't much in it. Maybe Nintendogs from the 2000s was just too hard to turn down - fantastic game to be fair.

For the 2010s, the names that came up as the height of gaming taste were Red Dead Redemption 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fortnite, The Last of Us, Skyrim, and more.

And then we continue down the list - 14% said the 1990s, 6% said the 1980s, and only 4% said the 1970s. This might be down to how many people were around in the 70s to try out the games available all those decades ago though, but they did get the Oregon Trail so the 70s gets points for style.

The same survey revealed that people voted for the PlayStation 4 as their favourite console, beating the Xbox One by 1% - 18% to 17% is nail-bitingly close. The Nintendo Switch then came 3rd with a healthy 14% while 4th and 5th went to PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii respectively.

So, what do you think? I wonder where you all would place these eras and consoles, but because we like democracy, it had to come down to a vote. We can't wait for the new console generation to show us what's going to come next.
