2020 has been, well, 2020. The year has been a turbulent one, to put in mildly, and while we were all trying our best to adapt to a fast-changing world from indoors, many of us turned to games to be entertained. Although there have been delays to titles, or some games not turning out the way we wanted, 2020 has been a great time for people to delve into more virtual worlds within the confines of their own homes, and we now have the next-gen Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 to get to grips with.

The Game Awards celebrates the best of the best, it's sort of like the Oscars of the gaming world. Nominations for the Game Awards have now been announced and voting has opened, so you can go cheer on your favourite titles, development teams, content creators, and more by participating.

The biggest category at The Game Awards is certainly Game of the Year. The nominations this year are Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, and The Last of Us Part II. Congratulations to the nominations, we're not going to weigh in too much on what we think the best game on this list is, but oh no wait here's our Hades review which explains how fantastic we think Supergiant Games's roguelike is. We have no idea how it ended up here, might as well read it though right?

Best Game Direction has Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, Half-Life: Alyx, and The Last of Us Part II as nominations, letting Valve get in on the action. Best Narrative nominations include, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, and The Last of Us Part II.

There is sort of a pattern forming here isn't there? If you hadn't guessed already Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, and Hades lead the nominations in many categories - obviously well liked projects with a lot of people backing them. The nominations are just the first part though, if you're interested in voting for your favourite games then all the nominations for games, content creator of the year, and more can be seen on the Game Awards website.
