Amazon Prime members are able to snap up a free copy of Battlefield 3 for PC until the end of the month. A rather attractive prospect, if you ask me.
Battlefield 3 released for PC and consoles almost ten years ago to a rapturous reception. Perhaps the most pertinent part of these reactions was the brand-new Frostbite 2 engine, which allowed for enhanced in-game destruction, meaning that falling debris could harm or kill players for the first time. Critics called it an excellent evolution in the series, and its multiplayer modes were praised for their depth and their exciting encounters; some outlets even said that should be the whole reason to pick up Battlefield 3.
Well, it's unlikely that its lobbies will be teeming with players in 2020, so it's lucky that the game has an entertaining campaign that trots across the globe through the eyes of a number of characters. For the majority of the game, Sergeant Henry "Black" Blackburn is being interrogated over his role in the fictional conflict between a Iranian paramilitary insurgent group and the U.S. Inspired by Generation Kill, The Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, and 24, the story swaps between Blackburn, an F/A-18F Super Hornet weapon systems officer, an M1A2 Abrams tank operator, and a Spetsnaz GRU operative.
Amazon Prime members can claim their free copy of the game via this link, and it's free to keep forever. The code, however, is for Origin and will only work with Origin. Also, this is the standard edition of Battlefield 3 so it doesn't come with its DLCs, but those were quite enjoyable and they're probably quite cheap now if you wanted even more Battlefield for your buck. There's still a lot of time to grab the game, as the giveaway will end on December 30th, and after that, you'll need to redeem it on Origin before January 29th, 2021.
Of course, EA DICE has their noses to the grindstone developing Battlefield 6, which sounds ever-so-enticing every time we hear more about the project. In fact, the studio was offered another twelve months of time to exploit the power of the new consoles, and "build a true next-gen vision." The team will be "creating epic battles at a scale and fidelity unlike anything you've experienced before," and judging by the work-in-progress snippets we've seen, it's looking pretty pleasing so far. "We've brought in talent from across the industry who have really bolstered our belief and our confidence in our ability to launch that game next year, so lots more to come in the next couple of months," said Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA.
