The Division: Heartland is a brand new game "in The Division universe" that will be free-to-play, and you're even able to sign up for a chance to playtest the game right now.
Based in North Carolina, Red Storm is the studio behind the upcoming game, and this company was actually founded by author Tom Clancy more than twenty years ago. Since its acquisition by Ubisoft, it's been a support studio for a considerable number of titles from the French developer and publisher, but it primarily specialises in the Tom Clancy's series. Ergo, the new game is in very good hands. "Heartland is a standalone game that doesn't require previous experience with the series but will provide an all new perspective on the universe in a new setting," said executive director of Ubisoft EMEA Alain Corre. The most interesting element of its announcement is that it will tie into the wider universe of the Tom Clancy's series, meaning that we could see crossovers with the novels and with other titles like Rainbow Six Siege.
The latest weirdness to arrive in Rainbow Six Siege was the Rick & Morty crossover earlier this month, which brought brand new bundles for Smoke and Sledge. Yes, I'm being serious. Watch the announcement below if you don't believe me.

Of course, the possibilities of crossovers is only conjecture as Ubisoft is keeping the game hidden away for the time being as it progresses through the early stages of development. However, we are able to guess whereabouts the game is set based on its title. In the U.S., the "Heartland" is a longitudinal strip of states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Simply put, imagine the middle of the U.S., then scoot a little to the east. It's expected to launch in 2022 for PC, consoles, and will feature cloud gaming capabilities.
Not only is there The Division: Heartland to look forward to, but there are mobile ports of Tom Clancy's The Division on their way, too. "It's an exciting time to be a fan.
