It's time to whip out your Walkman and party like it's 1996 - the beloved zombie Lightgun arcade classics The House of The Dead and The House of The Dead 2 are reportedly being remade by publisher Forever Entertainment in partnership with SEGA. Forever Entertainment are a Polish company that's worked with SEGA before, overseeing the remakes of Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei for Nintendo Switch, which are both set to launch before the end of the year.

As reported by Polish publication Graczpospolita, The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead 2 are being remade for "modern consoles" in the same vein as Panzer Dragoon and will feature, according to a translation of the article, "new graphics adapted to modern standards and slightly modified gameplay."

SEGA

The report goes on to state that the remakes will stay true to the ridiculous B-movie storylines of the original games, and that they'll only really be getting a lick of HD paint and a few tweaks to gameplay to bring them up to current-gen standards, or at least as close to current-gen standards as two cheesy Lightgun games from the 90's can get.

MegaPixel Studio, who are also developing the Panzer Dragoon remakes, will reportedly be developing the games with Forever Entertainment acting as the project's co-producer and publisher. It's unclear just how in-depth these remakes are going to be or what platforms they're going to be coming to, but given that Panzer Dragoon is Switch-bound, I'd imagine The House of The Dead and its sequel will also follow a similar path and end up on the home console/handheld hybrid first, with the potential of other platforms to follow.

It certainly makes the most sense for remakes of two popular Lightgun games to come to Switch before any other platform, what with the fact that the console features two Joy-Cons with built-in motion controls that feel ready-made for some classic zombie-slaying action. With that said, some kind of VR versions of The House of The Dead 1 & 2 would be pretty sweet ways to revisit the franchise. I live in hope.

According to Graczpospolita, Forever Entertainment will be sharing more details on the remakes in the next few months, and that both will be targeting a 2020 release, so keep your eyes peeled. If these remakes do end up Switch-exclusive, as I suspect, it's likely they'll be properly announced during the next Nintendo Direct, but that's pure speculation on my part.
