Oscar Isaac, best known for his role as Poe Dameron in Star Wars, has been cast as Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie and fans simply love to see it.

Video game movies have had a sort of renaissance in recent years. Sonic the Hedgehog is the fifth highest-grossing film of 2020, following an opening weekend that broke records in the United States and Canada. I maintain that the Tomb Raider movie with Alicia Vikander is very enjoyable if you view it as a retelling of the 2013 reboot, and Assassin's Creed wasn't brilliant, but it did make the Animus a lot cooler than it is in the games. And, set photos from the upcoming Resident Evil adaptation (yes, they are making another one) look tip top, and it's boasting a star-studded cast with a much more "faithful" script. I'm excited, to be honest.

Last week, the Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation, which has had director Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached since 2018, found its Snake at long last. This is excellent news, because you don't want one of those (an extremely skilled and genetically altered super spy) on the loose. Oscar Isaac, who also stars in Dune, Moon Knight, and Annihilation, had expressed interest in the role before the announcement was made. "Metal Gear Solid, that's the one. I'm throwing my hat in for that one," he replied to the question of which video game movie would he want to be a part of. Dreams do come true.

However, the internet is a capricious creature, and its judgement has been swift and sardonic in the past. Across social media, the reactions to the casting news have been... of utter delight, and a dash of eye emojis here and there. It's the internet, after all.

Also, mild Metal Gear spoilers, but we couldn't pass over this tweet:

Nor this TikTok:

The Metal Gear Solid movie is still undated, and given that Isaac is wading through multiple projects right now, we'd estimate that it's a while away. But, it is very exciting news, and it's cheering to know that the movie is picking up the pace.
