The Internet Officially Loves The Sonic Movie Redesign

The Internet Officially Loves The Sonic Movie Redesign

A fast blast from the past.

Movie Sonic is dead. Long live movie Sonic. After the first trailer for the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movie dropped back in April, it horrified everyone with the cursed design of its title character. Paramount Pictures swiftly decided it would be prudent to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new design that didn't make moviegoers sick in their mouths.

Would you believe they only went and succeeded? A second trailer was released this week featuring a redesigned Sonic, and the difference really is incredible. Now that the star actually looks like the beloved gaming icon I grew up with, I feel like I can focus on the actual movie itself, which looks like a dumb, goofy, genuinely fun time.

I said it when the trailer first dropped, but I'll say it again now: I'm genuinely excited to see Sonic The Hedgehog at this point, and I love the new look. As it turns out, I'm not alone. The internet, which once reacted to the original movie Sonic in the same way that a mob of scared villagers might react to an Werewolf, now has nothing but love and positivity for the blue blur.

Take a look at some of the best reactions below.

Life affirming stuff, I'm sure we can all agree. You'll also be glad to know that Twitter made sure to pay tribute to the artists and designers that must have put in an absolute shift to make sure the redesigned Sonic was ready in time, and lived up to the expectations of fans.

Seriously, I can't stress enough how much we should appreciate their work. They really did nail it.

Sonic The Hedgehog speeds into cinemas on February 14th, 2020, and frankly, I think everyone who complained about the original design - myself included - owe it to the filmmakers to go and see it now. Do it, if only to dispel the nightmare of that cursed first design from your head forever.
