The Internet Reacts To 'Cyberpunk 2077' Delay Number Four

Cyberpunk 2077 nearly has as many delays as Lou Bega has Mambos.

I'm sure you've probably heard the news by now: Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed again. For those keeping score, this marks the fourth (and I pray final) time CD Projekt RED has had to push the open-world sci-fi RPG back.

While the game did "go gold" just a few weeks ago, the studio confirmed last night that the team needed just a little more time to refine and finesse one or two things as part of what I assume will be a fairly hefty "day zero" patch. As such, the November 19th release date has been nudged back to December 10th.

"This is the time where many improvements are being made which will be distributed via a Day 0 patch," CDPR said in a statement. "This is the time period we undercalculated. We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in love with."

As I'm sure you can imagine, this latest delay caused quite a stir on social media. First and foremost, of course, people are worried about the toll Cyberpunk 2077 might be taking on the development staff. After all, delays don't usually mean more time to breathe - they mean more time to crunch.

Then, of course, there are the light-hearted memes and jokes from people who were kind of expecting this extra delay and are obviously happy to wait a little bit longer. Heck, even the dude who checked with CDPR after the last delay before booking November 19th off work isn't fussed.

While a lot of the replies do either poke a bit of fun at the studio or express concern and support for the devs, there's also unfortunately a pretty nasty minority that have taken it upon themselves to send death threats to CDPR. While I won't be sharing any of these for obvious reasons, CDPR Senior Game Designer Andrzej Zawadzki was quick to release a statement on the matter.

Thankfully the vast majority of replies to Zawadzki are in complete support, which is at it should be. Sharing stupid memes and jokes about the delay is one thing - there's no malice behind dumb jokes about the fact we won't see the game until 2077. Death threats over anything, let alone a video game being delayed three weeks? That's pathetic on a level I didn't realise existed. But hey, I'm sure every single person reading this knows that, yeah? Yeah.
