'The Last Of Us Part 2' Was Played For 200 Million Hours In 2020

I'm sure it would have been 400 million without that super successful boycott.

Earlier this week PlayStation dropped its 2020 wrap-up. It's a fun, end-of-year round-up that throws out a bunch of personalised infographics letting you know how much time you spent on your PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5 last year, as well as which titles you put the most into. I, for example, put a shocking amount into Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Like, far more than I thought I had.

Aside from your own shameful personal secrets, the wrap-up also offers a look at some more general PlayStation details, including the collective playtime of some of the year's biggest games. Through this, we learned that gamers put an incredible 200 million hours into The Last Of Us Part II in 2020. For added context, Naughty Dog's latest effort released in June, which makes that number all the more impressive.

To put 200 million hours into perspective, that translates to roughly 23,000 years. Yes, that is a lot. I guess that campaign to boycott the game went super well then, huh?

This impressive stat comes just a few days after it was revealed that The Last Of Us Part II is now the most-awarded video game of all-time with 270 awards to its name. It topples The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's previous record of 253.

According to gameawards.net, a neat little site that collates how many awards each game has won from publications and fans, The Last Of Us Part II has 270 prizes at the time of writing. At December's Game Awards (arguably the biggest show of the year) Naughty Dog's title took home an impressive seven prizes, including Best Action/Adventure award, and the coveted Game Of The Year. It also took home Best Narrative, Best Game Direction, Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Performance for Laura Bailey as Abby.

Of these awards, 175 were given out by various publications and events. 95 of them, meanwhile, were readers' choice, so maybe we can finally put to bed the idea that critics were paid off to be nice about The Last Of Us Part II, eh? Can we do that? Please? I'm so tired.
