The Last Of Us Part II could receive DLC, and an announcement might be made at The Game Awards 2020.

Developed over the course of six years and released to a very positive bevy of critical scores, The Last Of Us Part II is one of the most divisive titles of its platform. It was delayed by three months owing to its sprawling scale, and reports arose of crunch conditions at Naughty Dog in early 2020. Mismanagement and irritation simmering under the surface, the entirety of the game's story was then leaked, as hackers took advantage of a security vulnerability in a patch for an older one of their games.

The narrative of The Last Of Us Part II, which touches upon themes of revenge, factionalism, gender, religion, and sexuality, antagonised a portion of fans who were dismayed to see these spotlighted in the sequel to one of their favourite games. They took out their upset on the game, and submitted more than 5,000 negative reviews of The Last Of Us Part II on Metacritic before it had even launched. Our own review described where the extremely ambitious game met and fell short of our expectations, but these user reviews focused more on being angry at women with large muscles.

Fortunately, these trials and tribulations have not marred its chances to win an award at The Game Awards. It's nominated in nine categories, which is incredibly impressive: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action/Adventure. Cor. The Last Of Us Part II composer Gustavo Santaolalla enthused about the nominations, and thanked the developer for the opportunity to return to score the sequel. "It's just the beginning!" he said, after encouraging fans to vote for the game.

Geoff Keighley, the creator of The Game Awards, chimed in in the replies to Santaolalla's tweet. "Congrats!!!! 'Just the beginning.....'" stated Keighley, and it's this cryptic repetition that has tongues wagging. The Game Awards is a prime time event to reveal a new game or two. In 2018, Hades was revealed as part of the show, and in 2020, it's a contender for Game of the Year. Naughty Dog was adamant that there were "no plans" for DLC for The Last Of Us Part II, but a clip of what appeared to be a multiplayer mode for the game arose a few months ago.

Could this be unveiled during The Game Awards 2020, breathing new life into the acclaimed survival-horror title? Maybe. We'll keep you in the loop when we hear more.
