Way back in 2001, Peter Jackson kicked off his inimitable Lord Of The Rings trilogy and brought the fantasy genre to the big screen like never before. Now, with The Fellowship Of The Ring on the cusp of its 20th anniversary, it's time to celebrate.

For most of us, that probably means digging out the extended blu-rays and spending a weekend dressed up like Legolas while our cat walks around in a little Gimli costume. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, for a lucky few, there's something much more special brewing.

As reported by Nerdist, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has put together an exciting 20th anniversary event designed to simultaneously celebrate The Lord Of The Rings and support local cinemas - an area that has been struggling over the last year for obvious reasons. The company has announced a huge cast reunion hosted by talkshow superstar and Lord Of The Rings superfan Stepen Colbert. Cast members will join Colbert and Peter Jackson for a series of talks about the iconic fantasy films for three weeks, starting March 25.

"To honor the twentieth anniversary of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring and the release of a gorgeous 4K remastering overseen by Jackson, Alamo Drafthouse is reuniting Middle-earth's finest for three special post-screening conversations hosted by noted Ring-Nut and host of The Late Show on CBS, Stephen Colbert."

Starting March 25, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Elijah Wood will assemble to talk about the first film in the series. Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, and Liv Tyler will then talk The Two Towers on April 1. Finally, Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis will gather to discuss the closing chapter, The Return Of The King.

"These cinematic icons are gathering not just to tell stories and answer burning questions, but to support local cinemas around the world that are struggling to survive the COVID era," writes the Alamo Drafthouse. "From now through the end of April, Alamo Drafthouse has committed to share this special content with any theater that would like to participate anywhere in the world."

The reunion content will be exclusive to participating theatres throughout the US, but fans who can't make it safely to a cinema right now can rest safe. The reunion conversations will be shared online via Alamo On Demand, Alamo Drafthouse's 100% curated VOD platform, later this year.
