'The Mandalorian' Fans Want Lucy Lawless To Play Cara Dune Following Controversy

I love Lucy.

So as I'm sure you've seen by now, because it's everywhere, Disney and LucasFilm have severed ties with actor Gina Carano. Carano, who played Rebel sharpshooter Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, was dropped from the Star Wars universe after she shared a social media post suggesting being a Republican in 2021 is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

At the time of writing we have no idea if Cara Dune will be recast or simply written out of The Mandalorian, but mere hours after the news of Carano's firing was announced, fans started bandying around actors who could replace her in the show. The most prominent suggestion? Lucy Lawless, former star of Xena: Warrior Princess. I back it, to be honest.

It's worth noting that The Mandalorian creator and showrunner Jon Favreau had originally created Cara Dune with Carano specifically in mind, and apparently never auditioned any other actors for the part. Still, things change and we roll with the punches. I have no idea who we'd need to talk to to make this happen, but I can only hope someone at Disney hears our cries and summons Lawless to start kicking ass in space alongside Pedro Pascal.
