THIS is the way.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again right now: The Mandalorian is the best thing to have come from Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back.

That's not a dig or a slight at the prequels or sequels, most of which had something about them to love. It's just that the Disney Plus show managed to offer up the perfect blend of Star Wars action. It combined heart, sci-fi invention, and alien beauty, all while providing enough fan service to make hardcore fans scream with delight without ever losing sight of the plot. It's top-notch, is what it is.

That's why Twitter was so thrilled to learn that Dave Filoni, the executive producer and occasional writer/director of The Mandalorian, has been promoted to executive creative director overseeing multiple key Star Wars projects at Lucasfilm.

Now, Variety points out that Filoni was actually promoted to this new role last Summer, but the Lucasfilm website wasn't actually updated until last night... at which point Star Wars fans everywhere lost their minds with excitement. Filoni has, after all, proven that he really understands what makes Star Wars work. Giving him more creative control can only be a good thing in the long run.

Filoni will have his hands full over the next few years, overseeing a raft of projects that include a new season of The Mandalorian, The Book Of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Rangers Of The New Republic. The TV side of Star Wars is about to pop off, and I can't wait.
