Sorry Guys, 'The Outer Worlds 2' Isn't Launching On PlayStation

Only on Xbox. Oh, and PC. Just not PlayStation.

So here's a good news/bad news situation for you: the good news is that The Outer Worlds 2 has been announced for Xbox consoles and PC. The bad news? It doesn't look like the sci-fi RPG will be making its way to PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 - at least not at launch.

"New solar system, new crew, same Outer Worlds," the trailer's description reads. "The Outer Worlds 2 is coming... and when that day is closer we will show you more... but until then enjoy this."

Take a look at the knowingly barebones reveal trailer below. Sure enough, there's absolutely no mention of PlayStation to be seen.

It probably won't come as a huge surprise to learn that The Outer Worlds 2 will be exclusive to Xbox. Microsoft owns the developer, Obsidian, and a packed E3 2021 show from Xbox makes it clear that the green team are going hard on exclusives this generation. Still, The Outer Worlds was multiplatform, so there'll doubtless be some disappointed PlayStation fans out there.

The good news? It's about to become really easy to play Xbox exclusives. Last week Microsoft announced that Xbox Game Pass would be expanding in a big way, and will make its way to browsers and Smart TVs in the coming months. In other words, you'll be able to play any Xbox exclusive on your TV or laptop regardless of whether or not you have a console. All you'll need is a controller and a subscription to Game Pass!

Microsoft also confirmed that it's working with telecommunications providers on new purchasing models like Xbox All Access, which will allow customers to buy both a console and Game Pass for a low monthly price, rather than spending money up front. In the next few weeks, cloud gaming on browser will also be opened up too all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, with Edge, Chrome, and Safari support enabled. Basically, if you really want to play The Outer Worlds 2 and don't have an Xbox, you're probably going to be fine.
