The Outer Worlds was an instant hit with when it launched back in October. Obsidian managed to deliver a solid slice of sci-fi action set in a beautifully-realised universe that filled the gaping Fallout-shaped hole in our lives. The one Fallout 76 left by being really bloody awful.
Ah well. The sharp dialogue, smart quest design, and fantastic cast of characters in The Outer Worlds helped elevate the RPG, with many regarding it as one of the best games of 2019. It also gets confused with Outer Wilds a lot, which is also one of the best games of 2019 - if not the best. But that's just like, my opinion man.
If there's one recurring complaint about The Outer Worlds though, it's that it's far, far shorter than most would have liked. A lot of this arguably comes down to people comparing it to a Fallout game, which is perhaps a little unfair. Regardless, most seemed to agree that the credits ended up rolling a heckuva lot sooner than they would have liked.
The good news for those of you that have seen everything The Outer Wilds has to offer is that there's more to come in 2020. In a post over on the Obisidian forums, Social Media Manager Shyla Schofield confirmed the news. After thanking fans and discussing the honour of grabbing four nominations at The Game Awards, she revealed that the story will "be expanded through DLC next year".

Unfortunately that's all we know so far. Schofield added that more details would be made available at a later date. We can probably assume the DLC will hit PS4, Xbox One and PC at the same time, though. The Outer Worlds is also expected to come to Nintendo Switch next year, but all we know so far is that it's coming "early 2020". It might be that the Switch version launches with this mysterious DLC, but we can't say for sure at this point.
Without spoiling anything, I would point out that The Outer Worlds features multiple endings based on your choices and actions. With that in mind, I'd be interested to see how Obsidian plans to continue the story. Will there be one "true" ending, or will the DLC simply pick up before the game's climax to avoid any continuity problems? We'll have to wait and see.
In our review, we weren't quite as enthusiastic about The Outer Worlds as some. While we praised the innovative systems, original worlds, and unexpected characters, we wondered if it ever really escapes the shadow of Fallout to carve its own identity. Perhaps the DLC will rectify this issue.
