The Watchmen Collide With DC Superheroes In 'Injustice 3' Teaser

The Watchmen Collide With DC Superheroes In 'Injustice 3' Teaser

The Doomsday Clock is ticking...

The long-rumoured Injustice 3 could see the heroes and villains of the DC universe collide with the world of Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel Watchmen, if a new teaser is to be believed.

Popular internet artist BossLogic recently shared an intriguing image for Injustice 3, which is rumoured to be in development at Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm It's not all that clear if this is official, as BossLogic has done all kinds of gorgeous fan projects over the years, but the artist does work with publishers and developers on reveals. Most recently, he provided the reveal artwork for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

It's also worth noting that BossLogic tagged NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon in the post, which seems suspect. Oh, and it looks as if the artist will be attending the upcoming DC Fandome event on August 22nd, where we already know Warner Bros. intends to reveal a number of upcoming video games.

As you can see from the image above, there are some strong visual references to the Watchmen. The twisted clock in the background is the biggest giveaway of all, as it seems to be a clear nod to the Doomsday Clock, a (fairly recent) Watchmen sequel in which the likes of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman find themselves going head-to-head with Dr Manhattan as he examines various universes.

The Injustice franchise has already dealt with the idea of multiple universes, taking place as it does in a world where Superman has become a tyrannical dictator. The "classic" DC universe crossed over into this world in the first game, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume Dr Manhattan has been alerted to the existence of this much darker universe.

If that's not enough of a giveaway, we can also see the Comedian's iconic smiley face badge - an image that's more synonymous with the original Watchmen then any other.

Just last month, comic book scribe Tom Taylor also suggested that Injustice would be making a return. The writer teased a new series of Injustice tie-in books, which have almost always preceded the reveal and release of a new game in the series. We'll find out for sure on August 22nd, but I strongly suspect the clock is ticking for Injustice 3.
