'The Witcher 3' Player Livid After Uncovering Obscure Feature Hundreds Of Hours Into Game

Somebody probably should've told them

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a fantastic game, but not without flaws. For one thing, I'd definitely suggest that the open-world's fast-travel systems can be a little annoying at times.

Unlike many other open-world adventures, getting around quickly The Witcher 3 revolves around specific fast-travel points. This means that if you want to go somewhere quickly, you first have to make your way to one of the game's many signpost. From here, you can travel anywhere... by which I mean you can choose between the various other fast-travel signposts.

For the most part this makes sense and is rarely an issue. Signposts are fairly generously scattered around the world. But every now and again, getting to a certain quest marker quickly will involve a hefty trek between multiple fast-travel points. Not a huge problem in a game as gorgeous as The Witcher 3, to be fair, but it all adds up.

Skellige is perhaps the most egregious example of The Witcher 3's rigid fast-travel systems, because a good chunk of the region is made up of water and must be traversed by boat. In theory, this would mean the player has to travel across vast stretches of water to get to a signpost any time they wanted to fast-travel while at sea.

Sounds like a pain in the arse right? That's probably why CD Projekt RED made it so that players can fast-travel to any harbour no matter where in the world they are as long as they're on a boat. The bad news is that this is apparently a fairly obscure feature that a lot of players are only just discovering after hundreds of hours.

Over on Reddit, MoonSpider just admitted that after sinking countless hours into The Witcher 3, they've only just learned it's possible to fast-travel via boat. Given how much of a pain Skellige is to navigate without knowing this feature, they're rightly a little miffed. And they're not the only one.

"This would've been good information to have before clearing everything in Skellige," wrote one user in response to the revelation.

"I hate this, added another. "So much time wasted."

"I have 200hrs and just found out thanks to your post."

"You can do what now?..."

Needless to say, this is game-changing info for a lot of players, but is it actually that obscure? Personally, I had no idea this was something I could do for most of my first playthrough. It wasn't actually until I saw a loading screen hint that I realised ships were an invaluable source for efficient fast-travel across Skellige. It just goes to show you should always read the loading screen tips, my friends.
