The Witcher Fans Can Download The Classic RPG Right Now, For A Limited Time

It's not much of a secret that CD Projekt RED's take on The Witcher series didn't really blow up until 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As such, a great many gamers - myself included - have actually only played the last game in the fantasy RPG trilogy.

Don't get me wrong: I've always intended to check out 2007's The Witcher and its 2011 sequel Assassins Of Kings, I've just never really managed to conjure up the time or motivation to do so. However, a new offer over on GOG.com could be the perfect impetus to check out the game that started it all.

Take a look at our very own guided tour of The Witcher 3's Skellige region below!

As announced by GOG, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is currently completely free to download via the Galaxy platform for a limited time. The offer was announced a few days back and ends today (July 12) at 6pm BST, so you have to be quick if you want to claim it! To do so, you'll have to download and install the GOG Galaxy app, then search for the game and grab it for 100% off.

While The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is the most discounted at the low price of nothing, GOG has also confirmed a huge sale with chunky discounts on the other games in The Witcher series. Assassins Of Kings is 85% off, while Wild Hunt and its two excellent DLC expansions are 80% off.

Those coming to The Witcher having only played Wild Hunt should be aware that the 2007 RPG isn't quite the same sprawling open-world experience its 2016 predecessor is. While there's still a fascinating world to explore and fan-favourite characters to meet, it's very much a game that's showing its age. Still, go in accepting of the fact that it's a a 14-year-old release and you should be able to enjoy a slice of video game history.
