It's been a long and winding road involving broken bones, recast actors, and a global pandemic, but Netflix's upcoming second The Witcher finally has... well, it's not a release date, but it's a release window. Given everything that has happened so far over the last year, I'll happily take what I can get.
Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed during a Q1 2021 earnings talk that the fantasy series' long-awaited second season will arrive in Q4 2021, which means it's likely to drop at any point between October and December. Given that the show's first series landed in December 2019, it's probably a safe bet to mark December 2021 in your calendar.
At this point, I'm just glad we have some confirmation that it's coming this year. A concrete release date will no doubt come a few months from now. In the meantime, just jump back into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and explore again. I hear Skellige is nice this time of year.
After being forced to stop and start production several times due to COVID-19 restrictions, the second season of The Witcher finally finished filming last month. Leading man Henry Cavill even gave the cast and crew a special gift to celebrate the occasion, because he's an angel. A big, muscly angel.

"What happened I guess in the first part of this year is a lot of the projects that we'd hoped to come out earlier did get pushed because of the post-production delays and COVID delays in production and we think we'll get back to a much steadier state in the back half of the year, certainly in Q4 where we've got the returning seasons of some of our most popular shows like The Witcher and You and Cobra Kai," Sarandos explained.
The Witcher's first season was a huge success for Netflix, and it's clear the streaming giant is hoping to push Geralt's adventures to even bigger audiences this year. With years of books and video games behind it, there's plenty of scope for plenty more stories to be told on the small screen. Long may it continue.
