Filming on the second season of The Witcher is expected to complete soon, but we never would have guessed that the Wild Hunt might make an appearance in the adaptation.

Redanian Intelligence, a fansite for the show, claims that this is a photo of the iconic antagonists of the third game, having checked with their own sources. As a reminder, the Wild Hunt are a troop of ancient elves who travel between worlds to capture slaves. However, their motive shifts over the thousands of years, and they start to seek out Ciri, who possesses the coveted Elder blood that grants her unprecedented abilities. The appearance of the Wild Hunt is thought to be an omen of war, yet not a lot is known about them by those who inhabit the Continent. However, those who did escape the deathly soldiers attempted to tell their stories, but they were considered to be insane and rambling about impossible things.

Well, if the Wild Hunt are to appear in season two, it signifies that the show is aiming to pull out all of the stops. It's a rather picturesque place for the villains to be visiting, and so I'm not overly convinced that this encounter is occurring in the storyline of season two. It's worth remembering that the Netflix adaptation is following the events of the books rather than those of the video game. Season one covered The Last Wish and Sword Of Destiny, which would then mean that season two would work out over the course of Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt. It might be a flashback, as another describes what the group is and what they want. Alternatively, it could be a teaser at the very end to set up the arrival of the Wild Hunt as Ciri develops her powers with Geralt and the other Witchers. The official description for season two seems to suggest that this latter example will be the case, considering that the princess is going to learn how to protect herself from those who want her title and her abilities.

"Convinced Yennefer's life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen," read the summary. "While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside."

It's unknown whenabouts the second season will hit the small screen, owing to the multiple delays that production has suffered through the pandemic. However, we did get a lot of casting announcements this month. Cassie Clare will play sorceress and royal advisor Philippa Eilhart, Graham McTavish will play the inimitable spymaster Dijkstra, and Chris Fulton will play Rience, a mage tasked with the capture of Ciri for his master.
