Something wicked this way comes.

After a short break in filming, Henry Cavill and the gang are back in action filming season two of The Witcher. There's a lot we already know about the next instalment of the Netflix fantasy series, thanks to various leaks and interviews from before the pandemic-induced hiatus... but a recent report offers up some brand-new info on one of the monsters Geralt will be facing.

As reported by Redanian Intelligence - an excellent hub for all things related to The Witcher - an early season two episode will bring a Myriapod (or Myriapodan) to life. Those of you who are familiar with the games may well remember these giant centipede-like creatures from The Witcher 3: Blood And Wine. One such creature also appears in Sword Of Destiny, a short story featuring one of Geralt and Ciri's earliest meetings. It's entirely possible showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich plans to adapt this specific story as part of a flashback in season two.

Redanian Intelligence claims to have found evidence of the Myriapod(an) after being pointed towards some early concept art of The Witcher season two by a fan. It's worth noting that what we see in concept art isn't always indicative of what we'll see in the final product, and the Myriapod(an) could end up being replaced by another monster if it turned out that it was too impractical or costly to fully realise.

Little else is known about how the monster could factor in to the show, but Redanian Intelligence has heard that it will show up during episode three. Keep your eyes peeled whenever season two of The Witcher airs on Netflix. It was supposed to be later this year, but who the heck knows when anything is going to happen anymore in this wacky COVID world we live in.

In other monstrous season two news, it's been rumoured that Geralt will at some point go toe-to-toe with a leshen (or leshys). These particularly terrifying monsters are evil, ancient woodland spirits that get their kicks from being super intense, terrorising villagers, and murdering those who get lost in the woods in particularly nasty ways.

While referenced in the books, leshen never actually appeared in Witcher creator Andrzej Sapkowski's work. They were, however, a powerful enemy in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It certainly sounds like the second season is ramping things up as far as monsters as concerned, especially compared to the relatively creature-light first outing.
