'The Witcher' Star Shares First Look At Fight Scene

Netflix's The Witcher arrives on December 20th, and it's safe to say that we're all terribly excited to see what hijinks await Geralt and friends. Ahead of the show's release, Geralt of Rivia himself - the dashingly handsome Henry Cavill - appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to talk about this, that, and the other. The other being The Witcher, of course.

While I'd quite happily sit and watch Henry Cavill talk about Thanksgiving, the Kansas City Chiefs, or anything else he wanted to for any length of time, what I really wanted to know about was The Witcher. Thankfully, the actor didn't disappoint. At around the 6:20 mark in the video below, Cavill shares a first look at (what I assume is) one of the show's many fight scenes.

I should warn you before you dive in that it's a pretty brief clip, but it does give us our best look yet at Cavill's monster hunter for hire in action.

Thoughts? Comments? Personally, I liked it a lot. With that said, I'm a self-confessed hater of anything even remotely gory, so the bloodless way Geralt sliced through his opponents in the above clip had a certain appeal to me that likely won't be shared by others. No doubt most of you were hoping for something a little more crunchy and visceral, especially coming off the back of Game Of Thrones.

It is worth noting, however, that the clip shown on Jimmy Kimmel could have been heavily edited to remove some of the more visceral moments. For all we know, the fight as it appears in the show will be a lot more gruesome.

We'd previously heard that The Witcher was going to be a "very adult show," which certainly suggests to me that the series itself will be have a lot more blood and wince-inducing violence in it, but we'll have to wait and see. "Adult" doesn't automatically mean blood and guts, after all.

Some have also criticised the way Geralt spins and pirouettes through the fight as "too choreographed," but I would humbly point out that's kind of exactly how a Witcher does battle - both in the games and the novels on which the show is based.

Speaking of the relationship between the games, novels, and show, we recently learned that Cavill actually took inspiration from Doug Cockle's performance in the CD Projekt RED-developed Witcher games to get his gruff Geralt voice just right for the eight-episode series.
