The Witcher's Henry Cavill Spending Lockdown Time Painting Warhammer Figures

The Witcher's Henry Cavill Spending Lockdown Time Painting Warhammer Figures

For the Emperor!

As if we needed more of a reason to swoon over Henry Cavill, The Witcher and Superman actor has set about melting nerdy hearts by once again proving he is unequivocally one of us.

Taking to Instagram over the Easter weekend, Cavill announced he was spending his time in lockdown getting back to grips with some of his most beloved hobbies, which apparently include deftly painting miniature Warhammer figures.

The caption accompanying the picture post reads:

"Considering we are, both, going through the Easter period, and going through The Lockdown, I figured it a good time to put a silver lining onto the cloud that is some of the darker moments during this time. So I've decided to polish some old skills and try my hand at some new ones! It is a time of rebirth after all. So, as you can see here, the obvious might look a little bit like a tiny helmet... which it is. One of my almost life long hobbies, that I've been following but not actively doing, is this."

As pointed out by the tags of the post and the comments, it looks like Cavill is painting one of the Adeptus Custodes from Warhammer 40k. In short, these are the elite units tasked with the responsibility of protecting the physical body of the Emperor Of Mankind. At least that's what the Warhammer 40k wiki tells me. I'm a Tyranid man so don't bother myself with learning the ins and outs of the many Imperial units.

Games Workshop

The post continues:

"A company called Games Workshop... or plastic crack as 'we' call it. Genuinely can't get enough of the lore they have built over the decades. They have been some of my most enthused reads! If you were in denial about me being a geek before, you can't hide from it now. Also, in the background of this photo, there may just be some completely new skills I'm working on...or there may not be, so all of your eye squinting and attempts at digital unfocusing will be in vain... orrrr maybe they won't."

What does that mean exactly? Your guess is as good as mine. A blurred out document can be seen on his computer but it's almost impossible to make it out. Could Cavill be working through the script for The Witcher's second season? Perhaps a new film? Fan-fiction placing himself as the Emperor Of Mankind? All viable options. Especially that last one, as PCGamer dug up a post on the Warhammer 40k subreddit with a mock-up image of exactly what that would look like.

The final words of his post go on to praise the gargantuan efforts of those working round the clock in the NHS combating the devastating effects of the Coronavirus.

"I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all of the NHS (National Health Service, here in the UK) and healthcare workers worldwide, for your unceasing efforts to protect us. I imagine it might be feeling a little rough right now, but you Ladies and Gents are absolutely smashing it! Keep it up! You got this. 'Hold on a second.' I hear you utter.....'if he has both hands in the photo... how is he taking the photo??' New skills, my friends....new skills."

That is a good question. Personally, I think he's got it nestled in a gloriously bushy moustache that's grown sentient and is helping him out with his workouts, model painting, house chores and such. That's the plot of my own fan fiction anyway. We've all got to keep ourselves occupied during these trying times.
