Arcadream, an arcade cabinet housing a seriously speedy PC, is the invention we've been waiting for - and the best news is that the project has been fully funded on Kickstarter.
"What we are really into is connecting generations of video game lovers," said the team behind the hybrid machine. "That's what got us started a few years ago and that's how we came up with a slick yet affordable arcade machine to play both retro and modern video games."
Boasting 32GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, along with an Intel i9 CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, there's definitely more than meets the eye when it comes to Arcadream. In fact, users are even able to upgrade the SSD with an extra one or two terabytes. These hefty specs means that it runs even the most demanding of titles like... well, a dream. To put it into perspective, it's twice as zippy as the PlayStation 5.

It uses a control panel with eleven buttons and a trackball, which might sound a little daunting, but there's a small secondary screen that keeps the control scheme to play the game available for players to become accustomed to. From Valorant to Resident Evil 7, Cyberpunk 2077 to Sonic Mania, the ability to link a Steam, Epic Games, and GOG account to the machine is an awesome addition. "We know that the people who use our arcade machines fancy a wide range of games so we also look into science fiction games, or fight games like Street Fighter, Tekken or Mortal Kombat - the old versions as well as the latest releases," continued the team behind Arcadream.
The cherry on top of this cake is that there are kits to allow you to build your own one from scratch. The "XL DIY Kit with Games" offers 50 licensed SEGA titles as well as ten "recent online games," and the constituent parts consist of a chrome plated control panel with two joysticks, a trackball, and 20 buttons. That's on top of these same specs of the original Arcadream. As previously mentioned, the project is already fully funded, but there's still 28 days to pledge for a DIY Arcadream kit. You might need to dip into your savings though, as the kits cost €1,500 and a constructed one will set you back €2,400. It'll be a real conversation starter in the living room, though.
