This Is The New Official Star Wars Timeline Confirmed By Disney

Disney has released what is the official Star Wars timeline, encompassing the original trilogy, the spin-offs, the novels, the prequels, every Star Wars thing you could shake a stick at. Apart from that stuff in Star Wars Legends. Sorry about that.

In December, Disney's Investor Day announced oodles and oodles of new Star Wars media that's on its way in the coming years. After the stratospheric success of The Mandalorian, its script writers were twitching at the prospect of weaving new stories into the canon of one of the biggest sci-fi franchises in the world. There's the (untitled) Obi-Wan Kenobi series, of course, with Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen expected to reprise his role as Darth Vader. R2-D2 and C-3P0 gallivant across the galaxy together in A Droid Story, and personally, I'm amped to watch Andor, a series following Cassian and K-2SO before the events of Rogue One.

And, if you haven't heard, Ewan is very keen for a fully-fledged Ahsoka Tano game, so I imagine he'll have reserved front row VIP seats with jumbo boxes of popcorn for the Ahsoka spin off series. Metaphorically. There's a lockdown on at the moment. Really though, the number of new Star Wars shows is dizzying, and it's difficult to know when and where these will all fit into the timeline, which is often debated between fans. Luckily, Disney has offered a revised, official, proper, legit, canonical timeline for all already released Star Wars media. And, it's got shiny new logos and branding for each era. Stunningly, it's fairly understandable, and that's coming from me, someone who could take or leave the space opera.

Let's get cracking. This official timeline appears in The High Republic: A Test of Courage, a recently released novel written by Justinia Ireland, and the story itself is set two hundred years before The Phantom Menace. Ergo, it is set in the first of the four divisions in the timeline: The High Republic. A time of peace and galactic exploration into the Outer Rim, this encompasses the novels Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland (as we are aware), The Great Jedi Rescue by Cavan Scott, Into The Dark by Claudia Gray, and its own official comic book series simply titled The High Republic.

The Fall Of The Jedi is next, consisting of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars, and Revenge of the Sith. All of the prequel movies, for ease. Then, Reign Of The Empire begins, which is a jolly holiday for everyone who is in on the dark side of the Force. The events of The Bad Batch and Solo: A Star Wars Story occur here, when the power and reach of Palpatine's New Order is newly emerging. Not for long, though. Age of Rebellion kicks off as pockets of resistance pop up across the galaxy, shown in Rebels, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

These pockets transform into a force to be reckoned with, termed The New Republic. Those who cut their teeth in the Rebel Alliance are organised into this new government, and the remaining agents of the Empire know that their days are numbered. Presently, it's only The Mandalorian that takes place in this era, but with its upcoming spin offs Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, we'll learn even more about this pivotal moment in Star Wars canon. Lastly, it's The Rise of the First Order era, where new series and movies will hopefully explore the hateful group's rise to prominence. The movies The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker take place in this period, as well as the animated series Resistance.
