The future of Titanfall 3 is looking brighter than it has in years, thanks to a series of recent developments that strongly imply Respawn's criminally underrated shooter is finally gearing up for its long-awaited third outing.

Earlier this month, Electronic Arts effectively confirmed that the future of the Titanfall franchise lies in the hands of developer Respawn Entertainment, leading to speculation that a follow-up to 2016's Titanfall 2 is on the way, or at least being thought about by the people who have the power to make it happen.

Speaking to IGN EA's chief studios officer Laura Miele said that it's up to Respawn whether Titanfall 3 game happens or not. "[Respawn] will determine what the future holds for Apex and Titanfall," she said. "I don't believe in directing or telling games teams what to create, it has to come from the player community, and the inspiration and motivation of developers."

While that's hardly confirmation that a new Titanfall game is on the way, or even in development, a new update from reliable industry insider Tom Henderson has heavily implied that Titanfall 3 could be here as soon as 2022. Henderson previously correctly predicted a number of details pertaining to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, and more recently dropped so much information on the upcoming Battlefield 6Battlefield 6 that his Twitter account actually got suspended.

As you can see below, he doesn't give much away, other than sharing four titles he believes are coming in 2022. Among them is Modern Warfare 2 (a sequel to the 2019 game), Ubisoft's long-gestating pirate ship combat game Skull & Bones, and Bethesda's sci-fi RPG Starfield. We knew about two of these already of course, and it was widely assumed that Activision would release a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot given the huge sales. Titanfall 3, though? That's an incredibly exciting revelation.

Take this with the usual pinch of salt for now, of course. Titanfall 3 rumours have circulated for a couple of years now, with Respawn outright denying reports that the game was in active development as early as last year.

"There's nothing currently in development," Respawn's Vince Zampella explained at the time "But it's always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We'll see if I can make that happen."

Even so, it's worth noting that EA Motive, the studio behind Star Wars: Squadrons, is apparently working on an established EA franchise that should make a lot of fans very happy. Could it be?
