'Titanfall 3' Is In Active Development, New Rumour Claims

Respawn Entertainment is apparently working on Titanfall 3, and a leaked roster of new Apex Legends heroes confirms that the two titles will be overlapping even more in the future.

Well-known leaker Biast12 posted a photo of what is claimed to be upcoming characters on their way to Apex Legends. He deleted the photo from Twitter and made his account private afterwards, but someone else managed to save the photo and upload it to Reddit. According to this, we will see Valk, Blisk, Ash, Horizon, Fuse, Firebug, and Husaria arrive in new seasons of the battle royale. The additions skew towards offensive and recon classes, and of course, Titanfall players will recognise two of these characters.

Kuben Blisk, the antagonist of Titanfall 2, founded the mercenary group, the Apex Predators. Slone, Richter, Viper, Kane, and Ash were all members of the unit, before they were killed in action in the events of Titanfall 2. Following the end of the Frontier War, it is theorised that Blisk started the Apex Games of Apex Legends, as the motto of the sport is, "They kill you, they're better. You kill them, you're better." It's a minor variation of Blisk's catchphrase, and the highest rank that a player is able to achieve in the battle royale is Apex Predator.

We know that Titanfall and Apex Legends exist in the same universe, with references to simulacra, Titans, Hammond Industries, Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation, and more. So, seeing Ash and Blisk return isn't totally out of the question. Though they deleted the tweets, both Biast12 and Apex Legends content creator TheNeon_Beast have thrown their lot in with the rumour of Titanfall 3. However, Respawn and EA have said again and again that they aren't working on a new Titanfall entry.

A year ago, EA CEO Andrew Wilson asserted that "there's so much opportunity" to capitalise on in Apex Legends. "I can't give you a sense of if and when [Titanfall 3] will come. But we're still a great brand and we certainly won't forget about it down the road," he explained. Then, in May, Respawn's Vince Zampella reiterated that the developer has shelved Titanfall for now.

"There's nothing currently in development," he stated. "But it's always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We'll see if I can make that happen."

In addition, the team would be burning the candle at both ends to undertake support for Apex Legends and produce a brand-new Titanfall, possibly for next-gen as well as current-gen consoles. Now, I'm not saying that I don't want to see Titanfall 3, I'm only trying to think realistically. The developer was criticised for "aggressive" working practices earlier this year, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on development schedules has been felt by lots of video game studios.

If there is a new Titanfall waiting in the wings, we likely won't get a glimpse of it for quite some time. On the other hand, Apex Legends is set for Switch and Steam in late 2020, boasting crossplay with Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via EA Play.
