The Last Of Us Part 2 has accrued thirteen nominations for its development and importance for BAFTA's British Academy Games Awards - breaking the record for the highest number of nominations for a game in the history of the ceremony.

Arguably, The Last Of Us Part 2 was one of the most divisive titles of 2020. The progress of the project over the course of the four years was reportedly overly taxing, and crunch was intensified rather than alleviated in its two delays. Two months before The Last Of Us Part 2 launched, hackers broke into Naughty Dog's servers and published story spoilers onto the internet, and a portion of fans didn't like what they saw.

Developers were sent death threats for including topics like discrimination based on gender and sexuality, yet ultimately, the story resonated with lots of people who haven't felt represented in the medium. "It's not a happy ending and the hope for Ellie's future, for healing, is small. But by making it difficult, by not making it assured, The Last of Us Part 2 sticks closer to the slow reality of what healing from trauma is actually like," said Sam Greer on her personal connection between the character and her own experiences.

Therefore, it is unsurprising that it scooped up thirteen nominations across categories like Animation, Game Design, Game Beyond Entertainment, Music and more for the BAFTAs, beating Control and Death Stranding's joint-record with eleven nominations each in 2020. And, where you find The Last Of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima is often nearby like a shadowy figure with lots of knives, hiding in the grass. Sucker Punch's saga got recognition in Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best Game, and seven other awards. Cor.

As you might have guessed, we're pleased as punch that the ultra-stylish Hades snagged eight nominations. It was our PC Game Of 2020, and if you haven't played it, then what are you waiting for? Also, this person played Hades while using a pomegranate as a controller. Only the best games guide their players to pivot to fruitiness. The Debut Game category contains a cluster of indie titles that you should consider too, like Röki, which Mike thought was "very fantasy-movies-in-the-1980s." I'm sure you know this, but that's synonymous for "good."

In addition, there is an award that will be determined by the public. The contenders for EE Game of the Year are Valorant, The Last Of Us Part 2, Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Voting is open now and available through this link.

The British Academy Games Awards will be held on March 25th, and you'll be able to tune in via BAFTA's Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, YouTube accounts, and via Steam.
