There are those of us that are good at games, and then there are those of us who are good at games. Pro esports players are the latter. Reaction speeds, tactical knowledge, dedication and more are big parts of what it takes to be some of the best players on earth, and that work leads to some incredible incomes. As it turns out the top six highest played players in the world for 2019 earned the equivalent of an average US salary in just six days each.

A study by Fandom Spot shows that the average US annual salary sat at $49,764.00 for 2019, and if you average out the yearly earnings of the top players in esports it would only take them, in theory, six days to earn that amount of money.

These top six players didn't have these salaries handed to them though, these are winnings. The top five earners from 2019 all play for OG's Dota 2 team that won The International. The International, or TI for short, is known as having the highest winnings of any esports game ever - it's a point of pride for Valve and the community. The winnings also get higher year on year - the biggest spender for TI10's battle pass is Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud who has spent over $40k on the pass.

Each tournament the winnings are made up of the entire community buying levels of the battle pass. These earnings go towards the massive prize pool and for TI 2019 the pool ended up peaking at over $34 million. You think that's a lot? The prize pool for TI10, which has been delayed until 2021, is over $40 million. So you can understand how the five players on a Dota 2 team could end up with so much dosh at the end of a year - over three million each.

The sixth esports player who ended up making the average US salary in six days is Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf who you'll have heard of if you're into Fortnite . Bugha won the Fortnite World Cup at only 16 which meant he took away a cool three million in winnings from the tournament which earned him a place on the list.

The top tier of any profession is going to earn a lot - it's just how experience works. That being said, we're off to find a Dota 2 coach to give us a chance at the next TI.
