I probably don't need to tell you that the live music industry has been hit incredibly hard by the current global crisis. While lockdowns around the world will surely start to ease up over the next few months, you can bet that packing 21,000 people into an arena to jump around together is not going to be something we see for quite some time.
The reasons are both obvious and understandable, but it doesn't hurt any less. Still, music always finds a way. And so it is that Travis Scott recently took to the free-to-play battle royale Fortnite for a spectacular (and record-breaking) virtual concert that saw 12.3 million log in to the game and get involved in the fun.
According to developer Epic Games, this is an "all-time record" for the battle royale. Scott has shattered last year's record, when Marshmello performed a virtual concert that attracted an impressive 10.7 million digital guests. Still, we can assume that the increased numbers probably have something to do with lockdown and live music fans itching for their fix.

12.3 million is obviously a huge number in itself, but when you consider the hundreds of thousands of viewers who also watched live on YouTube and Twitch via streamers, that stat grows considerably. That's to say nothing of the number who will inevitably catch up on the show thanks to YouTube uploads over the next few days.
But as with any good live show, seeing the footage of it can never compare to being present in the moment yourself. The good news is that Scott will host a few more performances over the next few days.
The next show is at 3pm (UK time) today (Friday, April 24th). All you have to do is log in to the battle royale and follow the prompts. Epic says that the "doors" open around 30 minutes before the show starts, so jump in and head to the stage north of Sweaty Sands.

Can't make this afternoon's show? Not to worry, as Scott will be back a few times over the next few days. You can check out the full schedule over on Epic's website, but be aware that the last performances are this Saturday (April 25th). Attending any of the show's will get you a free glider and two loading screens.
Hopefully the success of this Fortnite performances inspires a new wave of in-game concerts. I was supposed to see My Chemical Romance in June and I very much doubt that's happening... so if Epic could convince them to do a show in the battle royale, that'd be neat.
