'Turok' Could Be Coming To PlayStation 5, And It's About Damn Time

Turok around the clock.

The PlayStation 4 - and by extension the PlayStation 5 - are set to revive the long-dormant Turok franchise later this month, if a new PlayStation Store leak is anything to go by.

As spotted over on Reddit, the UK PlayStation Network App, recently published PS4 listings for for the remastered version of the 1997 classic Turok and its 1998 sequel Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil. The listings have since been pulled, but between this and the leaked trophy list for Turok that first surfaced last year, it looks the classic FPS is finally making a comeback.

"Wait just one second, what the heck even is Turok?" I hear some of our younger readers ask. Turok is what we in the business call a Goddamn Slick Dinosaur Shooter. Imagine DOOM, but with dinosaurs that want to eat your face rather than demons that want to eat your face. Don't like the sound of that? You won't like Turok. Also you're probably really boring.

Developed by Iguana Entertainment, Turok was highly regarded at the time for its visual polish and smooth controls. It might not have aged amazingly, but it has since been re-released for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, so it's high-time PlayStation users got in on the action.

Admittedly this might not be the proper next-gen revival for the franchise that we've spent all these years hoping for, but it's better than nothing. The Turok franchise has been on ice since the god awful 2008 reboot released with all the grace of a wet fart in a lift. There was also the recently released Turok: Escape From Lost Valley... but that game is in no way a similar experience to the N64 FPS of the past.

Who knows? Maybe if enough of us pick up Turok and its sequel when they come to PS4/PS5, it'll light the fire that inspires a brand new game. Also, maybe it won't.
