Bob Odenkirk, who plays the titular lawyer in Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, has been hospitalised following his collapse while filming the spin-off show in New Mexico.

TMZ broke the news, and at the moment, the actor's status is not known but he is receiving appropriate medical attention. The collapse occurred on a backlot, and as soon as Odenkirk fell, cast and crew acted swiftly to call an ambulance to take him to hospital. The sixth season is currently in the works and will consist of 13 episodes exploring Saul Goodman's flash forwards into the present where he is hiding as the manager of a Cinnabon. As this is the last season of the show, showrunner Peter Gould is aiming to provoke the viewer into asking moralistic questions on the character's development and where he will eventually end up.

"'What would be the most fitting end for this guy - for the show?'" said Gould in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2020. "Is there any way for him to win any redemption after everything that he's done?" Moreover, upheaval due to the pandemic caused filming to be delayed to spring 2021, and each of the 13 episodes will take approximately three weeks to complete. Last month, Gould assured Odenkirk on set that "when Better Call Saul is done it will shed new light... you will see Breaking Bad and the story of Breaking Bad in a different way."

Yet, the story of Saul Goodman won't quite be over. In March, AMC announced that an animated prequel series will follow Jimmy and Chuck McGill in Cicero, Illinois, before their paths diverge. Interestingly, the series is drawing inspiration from Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and will feature tributes to "everything from spaghetti westerns to Buster Keaton to After Hours."

I've not seen Better Call Saul, so to me, Odenkirk is most recognisable as Winston Deavor from The Incredibles 2 where he plays a charismatic entrepreneur who wants superheroes to return while keeping his motives close to his chest. Yet, he's hardly someone who's willing to be typecast. In Nobody, he plays an unassuming father of two who is pulled into the centre of a bloody conflict with a drug lord. "When I suggested to my manager, 'I think I could do an action movie', I expected him to laugh," said Odenkirk to The Guardian. "But he did not laugh. Then I expected him to get laughed at when he ran it up the flagpole here in Hollywood. But people responded like, 'Yeah, that'd be cool.'"

Our thoughts are with Odenkirk and his friends and family, and we'll keep you in the loop when we have an official statement on what happened.
