Twisted Metal Reboot Coming To PlayStation 5 Alongside New TV Series

Multiple sources have confirmed that Sony is planning to revive the long dormant Twisted Metal series for PlayStation 5 to launch alongside the in-development television adaptation.

GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb explained on the latest episode of the Giant Bomb show that a revival of the classic series is in the works. VGC claims to have heard the same from its own sources. The Twisted Metal reboot and series is apparently indictive of Sony's upcoming strategy to release games that are more closely aligned with its upcoming movies and TV shows. Don't be surprised if The Last Of Us PS5 remake launches around the same time as the HBO show, for example.

"I think Twisted Metal is in the works but it may still be a ways off, so I think we're early," Grubb explained. "That speaks to a larger strategy shift from Sony - well, it's not even a shift, it's a 'broadening' of their strategy.

Grubb posited that the reboot might be shown during the PlayStation Showcase last night. While this didn't end up being the case, he said that "either way, it does seem like it's in the works, it does seem that it's coming, and it does seem like it does not involve David Jaffe."

The Twisted Metal TV series was first announced back in 2019. We haven't had much in the way of official news in the years since the show was announced, but rumours suggest the series will be a "high-octane action comedy circling around an outsider trying to better his own life". The show's protagonist has to deliver a package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland alongside a trigger-happy car thief. Basically, expect plenty of car-based combat, just like the games.

It's also been reported that Will Arnett (Arrested Development, LEGO Batman) will play the villainous clown Sweet Tooth, who drives around causing chaos in his iconic ice cream truck.
