Amouranth, Indiefoxx, ExoHydraX and others have been banned by Twitch following their recent ASMR streams that many were calling sexually suggestive.

The hot tub meta is dead, long live the ASMR TikTok leggings yoga meta. Not as catchy as its predecessor, I'll admit, but it is seeing a massive surge in popularity after Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa and others leaped from the Pools, Hot Tubs and Beaches category into the ASMR category on Twitch. To the uninitiated, ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response and refers to the tingling or shivering feeling triggered after certain sounds or sensations. Usually, the ASMR streams on the platform involve clicking, tapping or repetition of softly spoken words to relax listeners and viewers. Some will even use binaural microphones shaped like the human ear to record these sounds so they sound like they're occurring right next to your ears. However, stars Amouranth and Jenelle "Indiefoxx" Dagres have transformed the ASMR scene on Twitch through gamifying their subscription goals.

Lying on her bed with the microphone, Amouranth licked the microphone for 30 seconds for every subscriber gained during her ASMR stream. Once specific sub goals were passed, she'd change her outfit, and in a fair few of her streams she was wearing the workout leggings that went viral on TikTok. Indiefoxx got over 9,000 new followers from just one of her ASMR streams, and followed a similar subscriber strategy as Amouranth, with continuous licking of the microphone for every new subscriber. In one stream, Indiefoxx was dressed as D.Va from Overwatch with her legs up in the air.

Evidently, the ASMR category has been part of Twitch for some time already and streamers were licking their microphones long before Amouranth and company arrived on the scene. With the recent bans, it seems that Twitch is reacting to the sheer numbers that the streamers brought into the category, pushing smaller streamers to the bottom of the heap, and the criticism that viewers and content creators have issued on this sort of ASMR.

"This is what happens when Twitch can't suck it up and crack down on hot tub streams," said esports news personality Jake Lucky of Amouranth's and Indiefoxx's recent content. "A lot of partners are upset about how it has made ASMR streamers look, and many have had an upswing of sexual comments in their streams because of this. It's difficult to bash anyone for making their bag, it just doesn't belong on Twitch," said mandyplayerone on Twitter. Twitch itself has not commented on the reasons for the bans, but it's possible that the licking was the problem, as model and streamer Kristen Lanae said that Twitch required her ASMR streams to have no tongue visible while streaming as it is "too sexual."

Neither Amouranth nor Indiefoxx appear to be too upset over their bans and we aren't sure for how long they'll be off the platform. We'll update you when we learn more on the situation.
