Congratulations are in order for Twitch superstar Imane "Pokimane" Anys as she has surpassed a massive eight million followers on the streaming service.

If Twitch is the place where you get your game on, it's impossible to not know who Pokimane is and how far she's come in only eight years. She was formerly enrolled at McMaster University in Ontario, studying chemical engineering, however her popularity on Twitch rose and rose for her chatty and personable nature while gaming. Dropping out to focus on her burgeoning career, her follower count snowballed in 2017 and her work was recognised with the Best Twitch Streamer Award at the Shorty Awards 2018.

She had beaten personalities like Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek, Kathleen "Loserfruit" Belsteen, and even DeadMau5 for the award, yet sadly, her success wasn't received warmly by everyone. A heckler took to the stage at the Shorty Awards and said "in six months she will be trying to get back into that [engineering] school." Hang on. Let me just check my calendar. Yes, it's been more than six months since that event and Pokimane has achieved eight million followers on one of the biggest sites on the Internet, making her the most followed female streamer on Twitch, been named among Forbes 30 Under 30, and appeared in a feature film as herself.

Check out this compilation of the wildest things to have ever happened while live on Twitch.

"Thank you! I don't even know what to say... I appreciate you guys so, so much," she said when the follower count tipped over the milestone while livestreaming. "You know Twitch is my home." She described the moment as "overwhelming and astounding," and that her presence on Twitch is all thanks to the community that supports her and their friends on the Internet.

"We have really been through so much. It's insane," continued Pokimane. "I genuinely feel like, no matter what the future holds, I've made some lifelong internet friends and I hope that I can continue being a force of positivity for you guys." The only streamers who are ahead of her with regard to follower numbers on Twitch are Raúl "AuronPlay" Álvarez Genes, Shroud, Rubén Doblas "Rubius" Gundersen, Turner "Tfue" Tenney and Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. Still, with the momentum that she's got currently, it might not be very long til she breaks into the top five on Twitch.
