Twitch Streamer Destiny Permanently Banned For Hateful Conduct

Over the last few days it seems that Twitch has been happy to slam down the ban hammer, with no mercy to even the most popular streamers.

Despite legally settling matters with one of the world's biggest streamers, Dr. Disrespect, Twitch had no problem with dishing out a three day ban, when chess streamer Hikaru Nakamura watched the Doc play a game of kings. Just before that, Twitch handed down a similar ban to The Game Awards, Streamer Of The Year nominee, TheGrefg, when he hosted suspended creator Bruneger, and the pair discussed the validity of Twitch's suspension system.

Now according to Dexerto, streamer Steven 'Destiny' Bonnell has been permanently banned from the platform for a violation of Twitch guidelines on "hateful conduct". Destiny has received suspensions and bans in the past from Twitch for various other offences. He previously lost his partnership with the streaming service in 2020 for "encouraging violence" during the protests following the death of George Floyd.

After Destiny was informed that the ban would be made permanent he took to YouTube for a six hour live stream. Near the end of the stream he discussed with viewers the circumstances leading up to his exile from the service.

"Twitch never tells you why you got banned. They said a violation occurred on stream and then the three possible things they gave was posting a combination of words and emotes in chat to support denigration based on race, praising or supporting a hate crime, and then the third one, this would blow my mind if it's the third one, or advocating for the exclusion of a group of people based on their disability. There's no way right? It's not a hate raid, I don't believe my community does hate raids. I don't believe that."

Later theorising about the reason for the ban with his chat, he believed it could be due to a discussion he had surrounding the inclusion of transgender women in sport. In a previous stream on Twitch, Destiny put forward his opinion that women who were assigned male at birth should not be allowed to compete in women's sports. This topic has seen a lot discussion recently since swimmer Lia Thomas has become what CNN describes as "the face of debate on transgender women in sports."
