The Grand Theft Auto series has a star-studded roster of actors across its entries, but one particular voice appears to have gone under the radar until now. It's Tyler, the Creator.

Arguably, Grand Theft Auto 3 catalysed the now-omnipresent trend of inviting movie and TV actors to voice characters in video games. In the game, Joe Pantoliano, Frank Vincent, Michael Madsen, Guru, Kyle MacLachlan, and other big names brought life to the world of Liberty City, and created this incredible cinematic sense of realism. It tied the media together, and showed that movies and video games weren't at odds with each other after all. The rest, as they say, was history, and Grand Theft Auto games have boasted casts shinier than the miscellaneous detritus sparkling outside of the Earth's atmosphere.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City protagonist Tony Vercetti was voiced by Ray Liotta, a Hollywood heavyweight known for playing problematic yet disarming characters. Inspired casting, for sure. Moreover, Burt Reynolds played Avery Carrington, Gary Busey played Phil Cassidy, Danny Trejo played Umberto Robina, Dennis Hopper played Steve Scott, and even Phil Collins played himself in Vice City Stories. However, this approach where Rockstar Games would knock on every door in Beverly Hills asking the occupants if they'd like to voice a polygonal person would not last.

"I remember playing Vice City and thinking Ray Liotta's performance was fantastic, but something in the months afterwards when I was playing it was conflicting in my brain: was I playing Tommy Vercetti or was I playing Ray Liotta?" said Sam Houser, one of the presidents of the studio. "It really sort of caught me off guard, and it kept happening to me. To some extent it left me a bit confused, and it certainly made us resolve for future iterations to dial down the use of famous actors. So if you look at San Andreas, there weren't as many in that game."

Ergo, it's exciting when you do find a famous voice in a newer Grand Theft Auto game, and it's even more exciting when that voice belongs to Tyler, the Creator and he asks you if you like potato salad. Check out the clip shared by flackoyee on Twitter:

This was confirmed by the rapper himself: "IF YOU HAVE GTA V IM THE VOICE OF RANDOM PEOPLE SO YEAH". It's astounding that it's taken seven years to discover his voice in the game, and it's possible that he might even voice more prominent characters as well as NPCs on the street. If we stumble upon anyone else in the game, you'll be the first to know.
