A trailer for Uncharted is set to be released very soon, if there's more to this announcement from The Game Awards than meets the eye.

Would you believe that the movie has been in the works for more than a decade now? Well, maybe you would, as the project dropped directors almost as soon as it gained them, with Shawn Levy, David O' Russell, Dan Trachtenberg, and Travis Knight entering and exiting over the years. In March, once it got the green light to start shooting under Zombieland and Venom director Ruben Fleischer, it had to shut down due to the spread of coronavirus in European countries. Fortunately, everyone stayed safe, and filming started again in July and wrapped in October.

The script, penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, will act as a prequel to the series of games where Tom Holland is playing Nathan Drake at the beginnings of his treasure hunting career. These photos of the actor in the role won over even the most skeptical of fans, and the hype for the movie is brimming over now that it's actually happened and is no longer a castle in Spain. Though it might feature a castle in Spain. There's probably a lot of gold, trapdoors to secret tunnels, and spooky suits of armor lying still for centuries in one of those. Who knows?

We might have a little light shed onto the subject when The Game Awards roll around next week. Host Geoff Keighley announced that Tom Holland will be presenting a part of the show, and as the event is almost always chock-a-block with reveals and celebrations, it's safe to assume that we'll get our first proper look at the movie there and then.

In 2019, The Game Awards welcomed Norman Reedus, Vin Diesel, and Michelle Rodriguez to the stage to promote Death Stranding and Fast & Furious Crossroads respectively. Also, Muppets Bunsen and Beaker presented the Games For Impact award to Gris, which was sort of odd. No disrespect to the duo, of course, but it was slightly strange to have these two characters assigned to the category of games that explore weighty topics.

Anyway, fans are already wondering whether we'll get a glimpse of a new Uncharted game. Sony San Diego is beavering away on an unannounced project, and as one of its first-party IPs, the company would want to hand the reins of the series over to a proven team. We'll have to wait and see if either the trailer or the game reveal come to pass on December 12th.
