With the release of the brand new trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, fans are already asking "where is Spidey?" And somewhat more importantly, "who is Spidey?" With the continued expansion of the Marvel universe and now several different iterations of the character present, fans want to know which Spider-Man would theoretically be present in the universe the Venom sequel is set in. The new Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer might have given us a clue.

Spotted by Fandom, the Daily Bugle is the key to a potential answer - or it's just a lovely homage to a Spider-Man series of old. In the trailer, we briefly see a Daily Bugle held up in front of the camera. If you ignore the headline and look at the paper itself, it's close to identical to the Bugle in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. That, ultimately, hints that if any currently known Spider-Man is part of Venom universe, it would be Tobey Maguire's. But, that's probably not the case.

In case you missed the brand-new Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer, you can watch it below:

If you remember in Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire already has a Venom to fight and it's not Tom Hardy's. Also, the actor is 45 now, and might not be up for being randomly dumped back into the Spider-Man role, as Tom Holland is currently the primary holder of the name. Though it's a really cool Easter Egg, we're not getting our hopes up that we're going to see Maguire rock up in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Interestingly, though, this isn't the first time a trailer has recognised Maguire's Spider-Man in recent years. If you remember not long ago, a trailer for Morbius starring Jared Leto was released, and for a brief moment, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man suit is visible as a piece of graffiti - pose and all. Maybe it's just fun to hint and meme this particular series of films as they're now far enough in the past, or maybe there are reasons for these Easter Eggs to feature prominently in these universes. Until we see Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius we're not going to know for sure.
