Why Did Crash Bandicoot Kill Spyro And Wear His Skin?

Why Did Crash Bandicoot Kill Spyro And Wear His Skin?

Horrifying

What the heck Crash, stopping killing your mates and wearing them like you're Hannibal Lecter please, it's really quite unsettling. After Polygon brought this abomination to my attention I simply couldn't sit there and allow Crash to get away with murder. Someone arrest him quickly before he spins away.

Of course, that's not really what's happened here - it's actually a screenshot from Crash Bandicoot: On The Run!, which is a mobile game continuing the furry creature's adventures from his console days. We're not exactly sure why Crash appears in the mobile title looking like he's grossly butchered Spyro the Dragon, but depending on who you are it's either a lovely tribute to the pair's long history and subsequent revival, or just awful to look at.

Here is our review of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time...

Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! is one of those endless runner games you've almost definitely played in your time. I mean, who didn't have Temple Run on their phone at one point in the last decade or so? This edition, of course, still focuses on Crash and Coco attempting to defeat the nefarious Doctor Neo Cortex - they'll get him one day, I'm sure. It follows Crash's revival after we finally, finally had a fourth entry into the main series of games, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.

After a similarly long break from games, the purple dragon Sypro came back into the public eye with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018, which reimagined the original trilogy of games. The lizard with wings has appeared a few times here and there in the Crash series previously, from acting as a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart to being a swimming pool floaty toy in It's About Time, so the two characters are historically interconnected.

However, Activision - I know you own both of these characters and that's great, good for you. But please stop making them wear each other's skin. It's horrifying and I need to go lie down now, thank you.
