Witcher And ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Studio Donates A Million Dollars To Fight Coronavirus

Polish games studio CD Projekt Red - the company behind The Witcher series and the forthcoming Cyberpunk 2077 - has announced that it's donated around a million dollars (US) to help combat the current coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
The studio's co-founder and joint-CEO, Marcin Iwinski, posted a note on LinkedIn (thanks, PC Gamer and IGN), that reads as follows:
"Collaborating with Fundacja Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy, an established Polish NGO with over 20 years of medical equipment fundraising history, today we donated a sum of 4 million PLN to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Poland. The company's Board of Directors and major shareholders donated 2 million PLN, with another 2 million PLN donated by the company itself.
"We'd like to thank all the brave souls who fight for our well-being every day and hope these funds help in your effort to rid us of the virus."
Four million Polish złoty (PLN) translates to just under a million dollars US, or 8,800,800 euros - or 785,000 pounds sterling. The note adds that anyone wishing to find out more about Fundacja Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy - or the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, in English - can visit its official (English-language) website.
CD Projekt Red is currently putting the finishing touches to Cyberpunk 2077, which is set for release (fingers crossed) on September 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with Xbox One players able to upgrade to a Series X edition/patch for free. The studio is working from home right now, as a lot of us are, which could be a spanner in the works, but let's hope not. We spoke to senior concept artist Marthe Jonkers at Gamescom 2019 to discuss some of the differences between the new game, and the studio's Witcher series.
And in Witcher-related news, fans of the games (and the Netflix show, and the original novels and short stories that inspired all of this stuff) will be pleased to know that a new Witcher game will enter development in 2020, once Cyberpunk 2077 ships. Exactly what that game is, we don't yet know, but the general expectation is that it won't be The Witcher 4. Personally, I'm hoping we see a game focused on Ciri. Speaking of which...
