‘World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Delayed Until Later This Year

Working from home strikes again as Blizzard announces that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands won't release this October. The latest expansion of the MMO was due to release on October 27 but will be pushed back to at least November, if not December.

The update came from Twitter in a post signed off from John Hight, the executive producer of World of Warcraft. The team apparently felt that although Blizzard didn't have a clear new release date for the expansion, it was better if they told fans the news sooner rather than later.

The expansion, in Blizzard's opinion, is almost ready but they want the endgame in particular, to be polished to player's expectations. Earlier this year, Blizzard's rework of Warcraft 3 got less than favourable reviews and so it's not unexpected that it wants to make this new expansion as good as possible.

The message says "Blizzard has a commitment to quality. We believe Shadowlands will be something special, and we've heard from many of you who feel the same. We need this extra time to ensure that Shadowlands lives up to its full potential."

The post goes on to mention, however, that there is a pre-patch coming to the game on October 13, so be ready to download the update before you hop into any raids or questions. This pre-patch "lays a lot of the groundwork for the expansion and includes our revamped character levelling, new-player experience on Exile's Reach, and a host of new character customization options."

Although this is sure to be a disappointment to some players, there are others who are vocal in their support of the delay. The biggest name among them may be Asmongold, one of the biggest live streamers on Twitch, and certainly among the most famous players of World of Warcraft.

We'll be sure to hear about when the new release date is soon - there isn't all that much of 2020 left so we're keeping our ear to the ground to hear more.
