With a few months to go until they're released, we've already seen a lot of what the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 have to offer, through showcases covering both hardware and software. But it could well be that both Sony and Microsoft are still keeping some pretty significant cards close to their chests - and we're not just talking about price here. (Although, please, do tell us how much these consoles will cost, yeah?)
As reported by Gamesradar+, Kinda Funny contributor and former Game Informer senior editor Imran Khan has stated that he believes both companies have big games that they're yet to reveal. Ergo, if Fable and Halo weren't enough for Xbox stans, and Horizon and Spider-Man for Sony supporters, there could well be more in store.

Said Khan, on the Kinda Funny Gamescast of July 30: "Both [Xbox and PlayStation] have shows this month, [and] from what I've heard they both have to talk about hardware, in terms of pricing, availability, blah blah blah. I've also heard that - and I don't know if this is this month or later - both do have more software to show.
"Whether they do it now, before the launch, or even after launch, they both have things that are going to be like, 'Oh sh*t, I can't believe they're revealing that, here'. I would hope they do that sooner rather than later."
Khan proceeds to mention that Microsoft may be working on some deals right now that aren't yet completed, but that the company may well be preparing to show off whatever the fruits of those deals are. And with Microsoft hungrily eating up studios in the last couple of years, it could be that an imminent announcement confirms the acquisition of another large developer, to make games just for the Xbox and its associated ecosystems.

It'll really be no surprise, of course, for PlayStation and Xbox to show off more games before the launch of their new consoles - even if it's software that's a long way from being completed. They have to get players excited, and buy into their new hardware in the early-adoption phase. They need to 'win' the opening six months, to steal a lead and, hopefully, maintain it - as the PlayStation 4 achieved in the current gen. But what games could be included amongst these rumoured 'oh sh*t'-level projects?
On the Xbox side of things, we're all expecting something Perfect Dark-shaped to be announced. Well, hoping maybe, more than expecting. But it's a long-persisting rumour, and there's usually a reason why such gossip sticks around. Staying with Rare, which Microsoft bought way back in 2002, there's no little appetite for a new Banjo-Kazooie title - and with Yooka-Laylee studio Playtonic (made up of devs who worked on the Banjo games) recently tweeting that it's not working on anything like that right now, the ball's likely in Rare's court.
There are also names like Gears of War, Killer Instinct, Blinx, Viva Pinata and Crackdown to consider, of course. On the Sony side, well, where to start? We know there's a sequel to 2018's God of War in the works, and nobody would say no to a new Wipeout, right? It's been too long. Resistance seems to be on the back-burner, and Killzone too - but either of them could be stirred from their slumbers, perhaps in the hands of a new studio? And while we've seen Ratchet & Clank announced for PS5 with Rift Apart, the return of Jak and Daxter would be a treat too, even if it's not made by Naughty Dog. And yeah, there's also Knack. Ah, Knack. Knack.

It's safe to say that both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 could benefit from one or two more big names in terms of coming attractions. But what we're really, really after right now is when these things are out, and how much they'll cost. Because money doesn't grow on trees, and most of us need some guidance on how much we need to either save up, or simply not spend on the fam and pals this Christmas in order to selfishly get these new systems for ourselves.
