The Makers Of DOOM Have Teased A Mysterious New M-Rated Game

Rating boards are great. Not because they tell us how violent, gory, or sexual a game might be (though that's certainly a nice addition) but because they often leak a little gaming intel. It was only earlier today that someone spotted the Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima was rated an M so we know that an upgraded version of the game is likely on the way.

Now Gematsu has noticed that a new project from the makers of DOOM, id Software, have had a game rated as well. Sadly we have no idea what its name is or even the content it will hold but we do know one thing - it's violent.

In case you're not familiar with the sort of work id Software do, here's just a taste of the bloody DOOM: Eternal...

Looking at the Australian Government's classification of the new game from id Software gives us an diea of what we might be in for. For one, it says it's multiplatform, which likely means Xbox and PC. Secondly, it has been rated M for Mature due to its violence and online interactivity. It's not exactly clear how far this online interactivity will go, could it be a multiplayer area of a game? We just don't know yet.

The project on the ratings board is just called "Project 2021B" which doesn't give a lot away, does it? The '2021' makes us hopeful, however, that we'll be seeing more of the game within the next five months of the year.

It's also good news that the game got past the Australian governments rating board, as it has been known in the past to be pretty brutal. Detective mystery game, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut was originally banned from release in Australia but thankfully got a release later down the line.

Whatever id Software has up its sleeves should be good fun, though it's likely not a DOOM game as it isn't considered "high impact violence". We'll have to save our ripping and tearing for another time.
