Xbox Series X Consoles Already Being Sold By Scalpers For Stupid Prices

Xbox Series X Consoles Already Being Sold By Scalpers For Stupid Prices

Sickening stuff.

Only one day after its worldwide launch, Xbox Series X consoles are popping up all over the shop, as scalpers try to swindle consumers out of their cash.

It's no secret that the pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 were a botheration to the fullest extent of the word. Though Microsoft gave retailers and gamers advance warning of when pre-orders would go live, the sheer number of people trying to get their mitts on the most powerful console ever made caused websites to topple like a house of cards. Those who braved the great outdoors to pre-purchase their consoles in person were often faced with the realisation that stock had run out, and even though new shipments were sent out to stores like GAME and Walmart, it wasn't enough to ensure that no one went without.

The next generation of gaming is a momentous event, and one that plenty of people want to be included in. It was also lovely to see so much positivity and enthusiasm shared on social media, with photos of children and adults unwrapping their Xbox Series X and Series S and having a jolly old time. Yet, there is a sour note in all of this celebration. Some of the people who did secure a pre-order of the new console and one that (crucially) arrived on time, are selling their Xbox Series X console on second-hand sites for extortionate prices.

On Amazon, there is a listing for the console that shows a price of £1,200, which is almost triple the asking price for the Xbox Series X. But, they do offer free delivery, which is a relief. Alternatively, one eBay seller will send their Xbox Series X to you before December 15th, for the low, low price of $1,299.99. Surveying the site, the previously-owned consoles are going for around £700 on eBay, which is still a heck of a lot more than its retail price. Furthermore, these consoles come with no extras; no games, no accessories, no peripherals, nada. It's very shocking that these have appeared so soon after the launch, and that these scalpers hope to exploit the excitement of the next generation of gaming.

If you want our advice, don't opt for one of these Xbox Series X consoles, and wait until your own pre-order rolls in or for new stock to go live. Feeling like you're being left behind is no fun, but feeling like you've been stung for hundreds of pounds and still not getting a console at the end of it would feel even worse. Your best bet might be Black Friday, which will fall on November 27th. You'll have to be on the button, though, and may the odds be ever in your favour.
