Xbox has two highly anticipated fantasy games on the way right now. The Elder Scrolls VI and Fable have been eagerly anticipated since their prospective reveals - but we knew both would be in development for years before we got to experience them. But which would we see first?
For the 500th episode of IGN's Unlocked podcast, Spencer came on the show to talk a little about how Xbox is faring at the moment, including its future game releases. Since Xbox acquired ZeniMax Media, and therefore Bethesda, both The Elder Scrolls and Fable, perhaps the two biggest medieval fantasy series in gaming's recent history, are now committed to Xbox consoles and systems.
Here is the teaser for Fable...
When talking about the differences between Fable, The Elder Scrolls VI, and Avowed (an upcoming Obsidian project), Spencer is quoted by PC Gamer as saying:
"Fable's clearly [...] always been a little more light-hearted and a little more British, I think I could say, and I think Playground will keep it there. Elder Scrolls VI is further out, and when that comes out I think it's going to be incredible."
This confirms that Fable is going to be the first to release out of the two projects, and we can't wait.
Playground Games is working on Fable as we speak, alongside finishing up Forza Horizon 5, which looks incredible. Gameplay for the new open-world racer was revealed at E3 2021, and we fell in love with the game's Mexico setting, its weather systems, and general jaw-dropping beauty. We've also heard that the Forza engine is being reconstructed to make Fable - so the fantasy game will surely be just as visually impressive when it eventually hits stores.
