An eight-year-old boy has sold off part of his Pokémon Trading Card Game collection in order to finance otherwise-unaffordable vets bills for the family puppy, Bruce.

As reported by Comicbook (via News WYCB 5), Bryson Kliemann began to sell off his cards after Bruce was diagnosed with parvo - a gastrointestinal illness which, if left untreated, is often fatal in puppies.

Treatment for Bruce would cost the Kliemann family, from the town of Lebanon in Virginia, in the region of $700. Bryson began selling his Pokémon cards on the side of the road to finance the bill, before his mother, Kimberly Woodruff, started a GoFundMe page with a target of $800. In the end, the campaign raised $1,900.

From his sales, Bryson made $65 in a single day, and he told News WYCB 5: "I know everybody likes Pokémon cards so I just decided to sell them." Of his sick dog, he said that he was "sad because usually my brother and sister play together, and I don't have anybody to play with - so, I usually play with him."

In the end, the GoFundMe's success - the extra money will go towards supporting other dogs needing treatment in the area - meant that Bryson could keep hold of a lot of his Pokémon cards. But you have to give it up for the young man, ready to sell what's clearly a very special thing to him, in order to look after something else even more special. Sixty-five bucks suggests he still sold a lot of cards.

Related, Pokémon cards have been at the centre of rather less heartwarming stories, lately. The cards have been removed from stateside stores after violence between customers, and other stores have even threatened to call the police over scalpers camping out to buy up all the stock.
