Director Zack Snyder has revealed that a third 300-series movie was planned last year, while the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the world (I mean, it still is gripping the world, but you know what I mean - there was downtime) - but Warner Bros. Pictures weren't taken with the ideas he put in front of the studio.

This news comes to us via Snyder's appearance on The Playlist's The Fourth Wall podcast, via Comicbook. Warner Bros. approached Snyder to pitch a third movie, following 2006's 300 (which Snyder directed) and its less-successful follow-up, 2014's 300: Rise of an Empire. But what he returned wasn't exactly what they expected.

Speaking of Zack Snyder, we recently asked him if he'd want to direct a video game - and his answer is pretty exciting. Check our video, below...

Says Snyder, of his ideas for a third 300 movie:

"I just couldn't really get my teeth into it. Over the pandemic, I had a deal with Warner Bros. and I wrote what was essentially going to be the final chapter in 300. But when I sat down to write it, I actually wrote a different movie. I was writing this thing about Alexander the Great, and it just turned into a movie about the relationship between Hephaestion and Alexander. It turned out to be a love story. So it really didn't fit in as the third movie."

Snyder's concept has a name, Blood and Ashes, and he says that it's "a beautiful love story, really, with warfare". But the director's idea received a no from Warner Bros. - "you know, they're not huge fans of mine," he added. "It is what it is."

In another recent interview with Uproxx, Snyder again referenced his relationship with Warner Bros., distributors of his Justice League movie of 2017, saying: "It was cool to do the Snyder Cut of Justice League and that was fun and everything. But Warner Bros. still tortured me the whole time for whatever reason, they can't help it. I don't know why I'm such a f***ing pain in their ass because I'm not trying to be, honestly."

The latest Snyder-directed movie, Army of the Dead, was released via Netflix on May 14, to a generally positive reception. It stars a zombie tiger. What's not to like? And as for his extended cut of Justice League - it may well spawn a sequel.
