A beta for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Frontline is ongoing until January 30th and an industry insider has given a damning indictment of the experience of the game in its current state - it's apparently a "carbon copy" of Warzone.

There are a lot of Tom Clancy's whatever titles so it did take me a minute to remember which one this is. Then it hit me! Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Frontline is the one that was delayed because fans recoiled at the announcement of “a free-to-play, tactical-action, massive PVP shooter grounded in the renowned Ghost Recon universe.” Almost 8,000 dislikes were accrued on its official reveal trailer on YouTube, with comments like "this contains everything I'm tired of in one game" and "RIP Ghost Recon" showing the community's disdain for the direction that the series is taking.

At the time, the delay appeared to be a good sign. Perhaps the team would collect the feedback that fans gave, use it to inform the development of the game, and produce something that wasn't so generic.

Hindsight is 20/20 and all of that. "Early reports are suggesting that the Ghost Recon: Frontline Closed BETA is a carbon copy of Warzone in a lot of areas," said Tom Henderson, who you might recognise as the guy who published a number accurate leaks on titles like Battlefield 2042 and Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Another tester has shared their thoughts on the game on Reddit, and if you haven't got the time to scroll through the whole thing, they summarise eloquently with "this game is pretty doo doo lol." It's worth pointing out that this is Ghost Recon: Frontline's first beta and it's only open to PC players, so there's a lot of potential for the game to change into its final form. Yet, statements like this don't fill me with inspiration: "overall, something about this game just feels suuuuper empty, doesn't feel like COD, doesn't feel like a Tom Clancy game, doesn't feel like CSGO, or Battlefield - it's a weird, icky hybrid of the many popular shooters."

Thus, we'll have to see what the game has in store for us, though there are a handful of leaks emerging on social media channels if you'd like to go exploring.
